Beyond the distrust in doctors and science in general, the former Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, appreciates that the bureaucracy related to vaccination and the convenience of some family doctors are the reasons that have led to the low vaccination rate.
Starting from the data of a recent INSCOP survey which shows that 60% of Romanians trust vaccination and 40% do not, Rafila states that the vaccination coverage against measles in Romania is still 60% and the proportion of family doctors who vaccinate is also 60%. "I hope the current minister will succeed in making all family doctors make vaccination mandatory", Rafila asserts.
"There are some who simply consider it an additional bureaucratic issue, for example reporting vaccination in the national electronic vaccination registry, and they refuse, simply put, I believe out of convenience rather than lack of trust," Rafila stated on a podcast "Informed People" hosted by Mădălina Dobrovolschi.
Rafila specified that in Romania, 80% of the total measles cases reported at the level of the European Union are registered.
