The NORD Pipera Hospital successfully performed the world's first "hammock" repair of the mitral valve, considered irreparable.

NORD Pipera Hospital, part of the MedLife group, has achieved a world premiere in cardiac surgery through the "hammock" repair of the mitral valve, a rare congenital malformation, using a transaortic approach. The intervention was performed by Prof. Dr. Lucian Dorobanțu, coordinator of the Cardiovascular Diseases Center, on a 19-year-old patient from Brăila, diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation. Thanks to advanced 3D imaging techniques, the medical team identified the malformation and performed an innovative intervention, completely correcting the problem without implanting a prosthesis.

This redefines treatment for patients with such rare conditions, yielding a favorable outcome. The patient recovered quickly, resuming normal physical activities.
