Prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office near the Iași Court have decided to send a neurosurgeon to trial for fraud, after he allegedly misled a patient with back pain, convincing him to accept costly medical procedures that were falsely presented. According to the press release, the doctor, who worked in a private clinic in Constanța, used a technique called 'ULTRA' and attributed false academic titles to himself, such as that of university professor at Stanford University. In reality, the intervention performed was different from what was promised. Additionally, the doctor misled the patient regarding the necessity of a biological membrane, sold at an exorbitant price of 21,000 lei, when in reality it costs under 200 lei on the market.

Prosecutors claim that the doctor also presented the infiltration procedure as being performed under real-time computed tomography guidance, although it took place without scanning, having a much lower success rate. The total damage to the patient amounts to 26,566 lei. The defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence until a final court ruling.
