At the Molinette Hospital in Turin, Italy, a 76-year-old man became the first patient in the world to undergo surgery for a colon tumor 'in a state of wakefulness', using an innovative technique that combines loco-regional anesthesia with clinical hypnosis. The intervention was necessary due to the extremely compromised state of the patient, who was suffering from a hemorrhagic tumor and had high risks associated with general anesthesia. The medical team opted for a personalized approach, using anesthetic blocks and hypnosis to ensure the patient's comfort throughout the operation. This lasted approximately one hour, during which the patient communicated with the doctors, being mentally guided through hypnotic techniques. The postoperative result was exceptional, without the need for intensive therapy, and the patient was able to return home after a few days. The hospital's general director, Livio Tranchida, emphasized the importance of this procedure as a new frontier in oncological surgery, expanding treatment options for previously excluded fragile patients due to anesthetic risks.
