The flu season is expected to be one of the most severe in recent times, according to health officials. A new mutant strain, Subclade K, is spreading rapidly in Europe, Canada, Japan, and the United States, and the National Health Service in the United Kingdom has issued an 'SOS' warning regarding the severity of this flu season. Dr. Jacob Glanville, CEO of a biotechnology company, emphasized that this season will be unusually severe, considering that Australia has recorded the most severe flu season in history, which could foreshadow a similar trend in the northern hemisphere. In the United States, signs of early flu activity are already visible, and vaccination rates have significantly decreased since the beginning of the pandemic. This combination, along with the higher prevalence of the H3N2 strain, which is associated with lower vaccine effectiveness, suggests a difficult season. Glanville warned that current vaccines contain outdated strains, making them less effective against the current virus, which has shown an ability to cause more severe illness and higher hospitalization rates. The flu virus continues to mutate to evade recognition by the immune system, complicating the development of annual vaccines. Researchers have also noted that the virus is spreading earlier than usual, but the exact reasons remain unclear.
