The new Major Burns Center for Children, being built at Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital in Bucharest, could become operational in the latter part of 2027, after the completion of construction work and the procurement of medical equipment. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete following a working visit to the medical facility.
According to discussions with the contractor, construction work, including interior fit-outs, could be completed in June or July 2027. The minister said the project had made significant progress compared with the previous visit, carried out approximately six months ago.
The center will have a modern anesthesiology and intensive care unit, as well as 10 operating rooms. Two of them will be designated for patients with severe burns. A separate space will be arranged on the first floor, with a dedicated medical circuit for children with severe burns, to limit contact with other patients.
The children will be transferred from the Emergency Reception Unit via a special medical route to the operating rooms and dedicated intensive care wards. The project has a budget of approximately 80 million euros, financed by the World Bank, and around 50% of the funds have been paid out so far.
At the same time, the hospital must organize tenders for medical equipment, financed by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Investments and European Projects from non-reimbursable European funds.
