Construction of the Iași Regional Emergency Hospital could reach ground level at the beginning of next year, while the first patients could be treated in 2029, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete said Saturday during a visit to the construction site in the Moara de Vânt area.

The minister said the project’s financing deadline had been extended until 2029 to prevent potential administrative or technical bottlenecks, or delays in the supply of materials. He estimates, however, that construction could follow the initially announced schedule.

In the first months, the contractor focused on reinforcing the ground, during which more than 22,000 elements were installed to stabilize the soil. According to discussions with the contractor’s representatives, the underground levels and the ground floor are expected to be completed by the beginning of next year.

After construction is completed and the equipment is installed, an additional three to six months will be needed for functional testing, administrative organization and obtaining the required approvals.

The hospital will have 850 beds, 20 operating rooms, nine floors and approximately 3,000 employees. The investment, which will replace “St. Spiridon” Hospital, has a built-up area of more than 202,000 square meters and is financed through European funds, loans from the European Investment Bank and the state budget.
