Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete hopes that work to build a center for patients with severe burns in Bucharest could begin in 2027. The announcement was made on Thursday, at the inauguration of the Tuberculosis Diagnosis, Treatment and Research Center at the “Marius Nasta” Institute, one day before the 11th anniversary of the fire at the Colectiv nightclub.
Rogobete said the new investment is both a medical necessity and a debt owed to the victims of the tragedy on October 30, 2015. The minister noted that Romania already has centers for severe burn patients in Timișoara and Târgu-Mureș, as well as a unit for children in Bucharest, but the capital still needs a center for adults with severe burns.
The official said that the Finance Minister is aware of the project, without presenting a detailed timeline or an estimated investment value. In February, Rogobete announced the completion of the severe burn center in Timișoara, described as the first one built in Romania since the 1989 Revolution.
At the inauguration at “Marius Nasta,” the minister also spoke about payment delays for works financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The contractor is said to have initially covered a significant part of the investment from its own funds. Funding was released in June to recover outstanding payments and continue the project.
