Save the Children Romania launched on Tuesday, November 3, a campaign to build Romania’s first Integrated University Clinic for Diabetes, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases for Children. The project is being carried out in partnership with CF2 Clinical Hospital and the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete and Mirabela Grădinaru, partner of President Nicușor Dan, attended the event.
The new clinic will be set up on an area of more than 800 square meters and will include day hospitalization, an integrated outpatient department, nutritional education services and psychological counseling. The investment is estimated at €1.5 million, of which €500,000 has already been raised.
The Health Minister announced that the institution will support the purchase of medical equipment, but a legislative amendment is needed to allow the ministry to finance investments in hospitals within the universities’ network.
Rogobete also announced that access to insulin pumps and sensors would be simplified, with patients expected to be able to collect them free of charge directly from open-circuit pharmacies. He also supports the introduction of health education in schools. In Romania, more than 4,000 children suffer from type 1 diabetes.
