The case of a 19-year-old boy from China, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, surprises the medical community, as the disease is typically associated with advanced age. The young man began to have memory problems at 17, having difficulties remembering recent events and frequently losing his belongings. Medical examinations showed a reduction in the hippocampus, and specific biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease were identified in the cerebrospinal fluid. Although 10% of Alzheimer’s cases are early-onset, this case is unique because there are no known genetic mutations or family history to explain the onset of the disease. Researchers suggest that this case could indicate a more complex process in the development of Alzheimer’s disease, opening new perspectives for treatments and prevention strategies. Early detection is essential, and new research could facilitate the understanding and management of the disease.
