Since the beginning of the surveillance period for the West Nile virus infection, on June 2, 2025, the National Institute of Public Health has recorded 49 cases, of which 41 are confirmed and 8 are probable. The most affected are individuals aged between 70-79 years, with 22 cases, and one case has been reported in a young person aged 10-19 years.
Three deaths have been confirmed in the counties of Brăila, Dâmbovița, and Timiș. The majority of cases (33) have been in men, especially from urban areas. The distribution by counties shows a significant number of cases in Bucharest (16). The INSP recommends that the population avoid exposure to mosquitoes, use repellents, prevent their entry into homes, and eliminate stagnant water around households.
