The fall of the Syrian regime led by Bashar al-Assad came as a surprise to both the international and Romanian media. The Syrian conflict, which had been going on for more than a decade, had not given the public clear signals of such a quick turnaround. This event generated significant reverberations also in the Romanian online space.
According to data analyzed using the media intelligence software NewsVibe, in the last month more than 4,000 mentions about Syria have been registered in the most relevant online sources, reaching an estimated 111 million views.
Since the Syrian rebels captured the city of Aleppo, the Romanian online space has seen a significant increase in mentions of events in Syria. Even in recent days, the subject remains a major interest for online sources.

Predominant sources
The top sources most frequently mentioning Syria and the Syrian conflict are dominated by news websites and their associated Facebook pages. Among the most active are stiripesurse.ro, G4Media, Digi24 and Adevărul, each with over 100 mentions of Syria in the last 30 days.
Of the sources present in the top 10, none had fewer than 80 mentions, underlining the particular importance of the topic.
