The fall of the Syrian regime led by Bashar al-Assad came as a surprise to both the international and Romanian media. The Syrian conflict, which had been going on for more than a decade, had not given the public clear signals of such a quick turnaround. This event generated significant reverberations also in the Romanian online space.

According to data analyzed using the media intelligence software NewsVibe, in the last month more than 4,000 mentions about Syria have been registered in the most relevant online sources, reaching an estimated 111 million views.

Since the Syrian rebels captured the city of Aleppo, the Romanian online space has seen a significant increase in mentions of events in Syria. Even in recent days, the subject remains a major interest for online sources.
