In a speech delivered in the European Parliament, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasized that Europe would make a strategic mistake if it decided to ease energy prices by reverting to Russian fossil fuels. Von der Leyen mentioned that, in the context of the current crisis, some advocate for abandoning the European Union's long-term strategy, but she stressed that this approach would be misguided.

Additionally, she announced that the EU is working on options to reduce energy prices, including improving procurement agreements, state aid measures, and subsidies or caps on gas prices.
