On Thursday morning, at 08:34, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale occurred in the seismic area of Vrancea, at a depth of 138.7 kilometers, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP). The tremor was felt near the cities of Focșani, Buzău, Sfântu-Gheorghe, Brașov, Ploiești, and Bacău.
This is the third earthquake in Romania in the last two days, after two tremors occurred on Wednesday: one of 4.0 in Satu Mare County, which caused brick falls and cracks in the walls of a high school, and another of 3.3 in Buzău County. For safety reasons, students from two schools in Satu Mare were evacuated. A seismologist discussed the dangerous seismic areas in Romania, outside of Vrancea, that could be affected by strong earthquakes.
