Lake Techirghiol is suffering due to prolonged drought, the water level visibly decreasing.

Lake Techirghiol, a main attraction of the Romanian coastline, is affected by prolonged drought and high temperatures this summer, which has led to a noticeable decrease in water level.

The shores have receded, exposing patches of mud and land, and the images captured by the local publication Cuget Liber illustrate this desolate landscape. Specialists explain that the phenomenon is caused by the heatwave and the precipitation deficit, which accelerates water evaporation.

If the weather conditions persist, the exposed shore areas could increase. However, the therapeutic mud from Techirghiol retains its properties, being used in spa treatments for various ailments. Known as 'black gold', the mud has transformed the resort into an important center for spa recovery in Romania.
