At the beginning of June, the Antarctic Peninsula recorded record temperatures, with values up to 20 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages, causing ice melt and precipitation in the form of rain.

At the Argentine scientific base Esperanza, 15.4°C was recorded, exceeding the previous record of 13.3°C from 1998. Specialists emphasize that the average maximum temperature for the month of June is approximately -6.2°C, highlighting the exceptional nature of this phenomenon. Other stations in Antarctica also reported high values, and climatologists warn that these conditions may affect polar ecosystems, including penguin colonies.

Although there are indications that climate change influences these episodes, the effects are complex and require further analysis. Antarctica remains one of the most sensitive regions to global climate changes, with rapid warming rates observed in recent decades.
