Andrei Corlan, commissioner general of the National Environmental Guard, said that the critical situation in IOR Park could have been avoided if there had been a Register of Green Spaces in Bucharest. He explained that the City Hall is obliged to carry out an audit of these spaces, but has failed to initiate actions in compliance with the law, having been fined 375,000 lei in the last four years. Corlan emphasized that the lack of this accounting prevents the elaboration of an efficient strategy for the conservation and development of green spaces, which risks leading to similar problems in other parks in the capital.
