All 1,844 trees on the shore of Lake Herăstrău have been inventoried and assessed by specialists, and the results will form the basis for modifying the shore reinforcement project. Bucharest City Hall announces that the technical solution will be redesigned to protect healthy trees or those that can be saved.
Of the trees analyzed, 420 are in good condition, 697 in reasonable condition, 403 in poor condition, and 54 are dead. Regarding risk, 1,070 specimens were classified as low risk, 259 as moderate risk, 74 as high risk, and 10 as extreme risk. The assessment shows that 1,036 trees require no intervention.
For the remainder, individual measures have been established, including removing deadwood, cleaning the crowns, and reducing branch loads. Specialists identified soil compaction, lack of water, leaning trunks, broken branches, and deadwood.
General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu stated that the initial project was correct from a hydrotechnical standpoint, but did not suit the park's landscape character. The new version will reduce the paved area and include spaces for flowers and shrubs.
Data on each tree have been entered into the Green Register of Herăstrău Park. The regeneration process was preceded by consultation with nearly 10,000 Bucharest residents and benefited from an investment of 90,000 euros.
