Bucharest City Hall has announced that the Dâmbovița could be transformed from a simple canal running through Bucharest into a more welcoming urban space for residents. The institution says the project aims to rethink how traffic is organized around the river and create areas that are more accessible to people.

The plan includes planting trees and arranging areas large enough for pedestrians and urban activities. The municipality says it intends to return the Dâmbovița to Bucharest residents and transform its banks into a more attractive space that is better integrated into the city.

The announcement does not, for now, specify the timeline for the works, the investment amount or the project’s concrete stages. City Hall also provided no details about the interventions that would be made to traffic and the existing infrastructure. The new development is the official intention to rethink the relationship between the city and the Dâmbovița River through measures combining traffic reorganization, tree planting and the expansion of spaces dedicated to people.
