Bucharest Prefect will not convene the emergency situations committee for the time being following illegal burning in Sintești

The Prefect of Bucharest, Andrei Nistor, announced on Friday that he will not convene the Committee for Emergency Situations for the time being, after the interim Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, requested the declaration of a state of alert in Bucharest and Ilfov due to the illegal burning in Sintești. Nistor first wants to discuss the matter with the authorities in Ilfov, which have already convened the county committee.

The Prefect of Bucharest considers that a joint meeting would have been useful and says he will assess whether Bucharest can participate in the meeting organized by Ilfov. He specified that the issue lies within Ilfov County, while the Capital has no direct authority in the area.

Nistor argues that concrete solutions are needed, not image-building actions. The proposed measures include permanent police checkpoints at the entrances to and exits from the area, to verify waste shipments and deter illegal burning.

The Minister of the Environment called for round-the-clock monitoring, checks on transport operators, and surveillance of the four access routes to Sintești, with the involvement of the Police, the Environmental Guard, municipalities, and local police.
