The abolition of the high school admission exam will be subject to a vote in Parliament, after USR initiated a bill that provides for the repeal of the article in the Education Law that regulates this competition.
The President of the Education Committee, Ștefan Pălărie, stated that he relies on the wisdom of the parliamentarians to make a decision in the extraordinary session next week.
"We advocate for repeal, regardless of the proposed application procedure," Ștefan Pălărie declared for Edupedu.ro.
This is the third bill submitted on the topic of the admission exam, in the context of criticisms related to the fact that the provisions of the project increase both the risk of exam fraud and inequities.
We remind that the project put in consultation by the Ministry of Education for high school admission in 2027 introduces the possibility for high schools to organize their own competitions for up to 50% of the places in the 9th grade, after the National Evaluation.
The exam, introduced in 2023 in the Education Law, was to be applied from 2027.
Two other bills, one for postponing the admission by 4 years and another by 2 years, have also been proposed by liberals and social democrats, respectively.
