The Ministry of Education announced that Romania has won two gold medals and three silver medals at the 56th edition of the International Physics Olympiad, which took place between July 4 and 12, 2026, in Bucaramanga, Colombia, with the participation of 381 competitors from 90 countries.
The Romanian students who won medals are: Vlad Bolohan and Andrei Vila, both from the International Theoretical High School of Computer Science in Bucharest, gold medal winners, and Rareș Muntean, Alexandru Jicu, and Alexandru Condrea, who won silver medals. The Romanian team was coordinated by Associate Professor Dr. Sebastian Popescu and Professor Dr. Gabriel Florian.
The Ministry of Education congratulated the students, teachers, and parents for their constant support. The coordination of Romania's participation was ensured by the Olympiad, Competitions, Partnerships, and Extracurricular Education Directorate, through Professor Elisabeta Ana Nagy.
