Romanian students took first place in the nations ranking at the 2026 Balkan Junior Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI), held from September 22 to 28 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Romania won three gold medals and one bronze medal, ranking first both by total score and by the number and value of the distinctions.
Andrei Nemțișor, an eighth-grade student at “Costache Negruzzi” National College in Iași, won the absolute gold medal, achieving the highest score in the competition. The other gold medals were won by Traian Danciu, a seventh-grade student at the International Computer Science High School in Bucharest, and Vlad Bondoc, an eighth-grade student at the same institution. Vlad Ioan Muntoiu, from “Constantin Diaconovici Loga” National College of Computer Science in Timișoara, won the bronze medal.
The competition brought together 55 contestants from 13 countries. Romania’s team was coordinated by teacher Eugen Nodea, team leader, and student Ioan-Cristian Pop, deputy leader. Participation was supported by the Ministry of Education and Research, which covers the fees, transportation, and related expenses for the national teams.
