Before the announcement regarding the ranking in the European Cybersecurity Championship, Romania was involved in an international operation against infrastructure associated with the KillSec ransomware group, carried out as part of “KillSwitch”. Authorities coordinated searches in several countries, took over the website used to publish the stolen data, and secured at least 110 TB of information, while approximately 1,000 suspected attacks were targeted as part of the investigation.
At the same time, an analysis based on Eurostat data indicated that Romania ranked last in the EU for basic or advanced digital skills, with only 31.84% of the population possessing such skills, although internet access had increased.
