Romania is facing a major structural problem, having the highest proportion of NEET (not in education, employment, or training) youth in the European Union, with nearly 20% of young people aged 15-29 in this situation. This reality is exacerbated by the poor quality of schools, insufficient social services, and an inefficient transition between education and the labor market. Young Roma, in particular, face discrimination and precarious infrastructure, leading to a vicious cycle of school dropout and unemployment. Ciprian Necula (Hot News journalist) suggests a change of perspective, proposing that young Roma be seen as an opportunity, not a burden. Investments in their education and skills are essential for the future of Romania and Europe. Existing solutions, such as community centers and mentoring programs, need to be integrated systemically. Cooperation between the government, local authorities, the business environment, and civil society is necessary to ensure quality education and effective transitions to work.
