Ilie Bolojan will conclude his interim position at the Ministry of Education on February 27, after 45 days since his appointment, but a replacement has not yet been found.
The new minister will have the difficult task of implementing the austerity policies imposed by Bolojan, including a 10% cut in university professors' salaries. On the list of potential replacements are Marilen Pirtea and Luciana Antoci, as well as Daniel Breaz, former Minister of Culture. Prime Minister Bolojan is looking for a strong academic figure capable of managing the challenges of education, including combating functional illiteracy, which severely affects students in Romania. The Education portfolio has been vacant since December 22, when Daniel David resigned.
