The personality of John Hunyadi was celebrated on Thursday during the symposium 'John Hunyadi and his time', organized by the Romanian Academy, in partnership with the City Hall of Hunedoara and the National Museum of Romanian Literature. The event brought together historians and specialists who discussed the impact of the Transylvanian voivode on Romanian history in the 15th century.
The mayor of Hunedoara, Dan Bobouțanu, emphasized the importance of the legacy left by John, not only for the city of Hunedoara but also for the entire Romania. The year 2026 has been declared 'The Year of John Hunyadi', marking 570 years since his death and the victory at Belgrade, which halted the advance of the Ottomans into Europe. The symposium is the first of its kind since 1956, highlighting the ongoing relevance of John Hunyadi in national consciousness.
