The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated that the Romanian Government intends to adopt a measure of reducing the excise duty on diesel this week, aiming to produce effects starting next week.
Ivan explained that the Ministry of Finance is working on the details of implementing this measure, which should reduce costs for consumers. This decision comes against the backdrop of additional VAT revenues generated by rising pump prices.
The measure joins other initiatives, such as limiting exports and reopening the Petrotel refinery, to ensure fuel supply.
Ivan emphasized that the major impact is felt in the diesel sector, considering the significant price increases. He also mentioned that Romania has sufficient reserves and alternative supply routes, and fuel rationing is not an option being considered.
The exact figures regarding the decrease in diesel prices will be communicated by the Ministry of Finance after assessing budgetary affordability.
