Metrorex takes into account the reduction of the number of trains in circulation, in the context of the energy crisis, with the first affected being the IVA trains on Line 4, the oldest and with the highest energy consumption. According to the cited sources, this measure could lead to increased waiting times, and moving trains from other lines would affect the lines with heavy traffic.
Expert Dumitru Chisăliță believes that reducing frequency can bring savings only if applied during off-peak hours, between 7:00 PM and midnight.
At the same time, the delay in introducing the new Alstom Metropolis trains into circulation complicates the situation. Although the trains arrived in Bucharest as early as 2024, they are still in the testing phase and do not carry passengers.
According to the leader of the Metrorex union, putting them into operation would allow for the redistribution of trains on the busiest lines and would reduce pressure on the network.
