Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna stated that Romania is not the right time to switch to progressive taxation, although he acknowledges that the discussion should be resumed in the future. He mentioned that within UDMR there are diverse opinions, with some colleagues supporting progressive taxation, while others prefer a flat rate. Barna emphasized that, although he firmly opposed this idea in the past, he is now more open to pro and con arguments. He compared Romania's situation to European countries that have adopted this system, such as the Scandinavian ones, but stressed that it is not the time for a change in this direction. The Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, brought up progressive taxation as a solution for a fairer tax system, mentioning the significant impact of tax increases on low-income Romanians.
