UDMR Senator Tanczos Barna criticized the lavishness displayed at the baptism of PSD leader Alfred Simonis’s child, saying it created an unpleasant contrast with the difficult situation facing many Romanians. The statements were made on the Digi24 program “În Fața Ta.”
The former deputy prime minister said that the event itself was not the problem, but rather the way the social-democratic politicians and their partners presented themselves. Tanczos Barna said he could not explain the scale and opulence of the party, given that the population is facing financial problems, uncertainty and social tensions.
The UDMR senator compared the situation with the wedding of the party’s leader, Kelemen Hunor, which, he said, did not attract media attention because it did not provide “material to publish.”
Tanczos Barna stressed that such episodes affect the image of the entire political class, not just those attending the event. In his view, the baptism remains “a stain on politicians’ reputation” and could also influence public perceptions of the PSD. The full interview will be broadcast on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on Digi24.
