Alfred Simonis, president of the Timiș County Council, mocked on Monday the journalists who reported on the luxury and outfits showcased at his child’s christening, held over the weekend. At the opening of a meeting, Simonis said it had been “a difficult weekend” not only for the guests at the event, but also for those who followed and commented on images from the party.
“They kept watch, they hid in the bushes, they stayed awake all night to comment, spread and promote,” Alfred Simonis said, according to a recording published by Vocea Timișului.
The event became a subject of debate after images of the attendees’ outfits emerged, particularly those worn by the women. Among the most commented-on appearances was that of Sorina Docuz, the partner of former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. The press reported that the coat she wore was allegedly made of chinchilla and cost more than 15,000 euros.
Marcel Ciolacu claimed that the coat had been bought at a bazaar in Istanbul and cost 500 euros. The former prime minister also confirmed that he would not marry Sorina Docuz this month. Simonis’s remarks came after other PSD leaders also reacted to criticism of the party.
