PSD President Sorin Grindeanu stated on Monday that he understands the criticism that emerged after the party held on Saturday to celebrate the baptism of Alfred Simonis's child, the head of the Timiș County Council. Grindeanu, who was the child's godfather, said that the images from the event conveyed an inappropriate message at a time when many Romanians are feeling the effects of austerity measures.
Several people from the PSD leadership attended the party, while the luxurious outfits worn by the partners of some Social Democratic leaders drew criticism in the public sphere and from the opposition.
“All of us who have public responsibilities must be much more careful about how we relate to people and the message we convey, even during private events,” the PSD leader stated.
Grindeanu clarified that he does not intend to downplay the reactions and expressed his regret over the perception created among Romanians.
