Stellantis, the automotive group that owns brands such as Jeep, Peugeot, and Fiat, has announced the recall of over 1.3 million vehicles due to an electrical issue that could lead to fire. The defect is related to the wiring of the hydraulic electric pump of the power steering system, which can cause overheating of surrounding materials, even with the engine off.

The affected models are Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator, manufactured between 2021 and 2025. Owners are advised to park their vehicles away from buildings and other cars until the issue is resolved.

Repairs will vary, and a final technical solution is expected starting in July.

Stellantis has not reported any accidents or deaths caused by this defect. Additionally, the company has recently faced other safety issues, including a previous recall for Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

Stellantis has also announced a 1 billion euro investment in Germany by 2030, including for the production of the Astra model.
