Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has become the first major airline in Europe to cancel flights due to the rapid increase in fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
SAS, the national carrier for Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, has announced that it will be cutting a significant number of flights, especially on domestic routes where alternatives exist. The company's spokesperson emphasized that the measure is necessary to strengthen the company's resilience in the face of the current situation.
Hundreds of flights have already been canceled, and experts warn that this decision could also influence other carriers in Europe. The war in Iran and the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz raise concerns about a possible crisis in European aviation, considering that half of the fuel used by European airlines passes through this area.
Recently, Air New Zealand has taken similar measures, announcing flight cancellations for the same reasons.
