Romgaz denies political pressure for natural gas purchases: Commercial decisions are made solely based on economic and strategic criteria

Romgaz stated that no authority of the Romanian state exerted pressure on the company’s management to conclude contracts for the purchase or sale of gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG). The clarification comes amid controversy surrounding US LNG and the Vertical Corridor.

The company said in a statement that all commercial decisions are analyzed and adopted exclusively through its corporate mechanisms, based on economic, commercial, and strategic feasibility criteria. Market conditions, associated risks, Romgaz’s needs, and its development objectives are taken into account.

Romgaz specified that it will continue to analyze opportunities in the gas market, including those concerning LNG, solely based on the company’s interests and relevant criteria. Any transaction falling under reporting obligations will be communicated through official channels.

The company’s reaction comes after information was circulated about possible contracts for American LNG. PSD President Sorin Grindeanu denied that he had discussed such contracts with the United States ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
