In November 2024, the volume of retail trade increased by 2.3% in the European Union and in the euro area, according to Eurostat. Romania recorded the most significant decline, with a decrease of 4.6%. The largest increases were in Cyprus (8.5%), Portugal (6.5%), and Denmark (6.2%). In the EU, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco increased by 0.8%, while non-food products rose by 3.6%. Compared to the previous month, the volume of trade increased by 0.2% in the EU. Romania reported zero growth in November, after a decline of 1.1% in October. At the national level, retail businesses decreased by 4.8% in November 2025 compared to the previous year, with declines in sales of fuels, food, and non-food products. However, fuel trade increased by 2.3%.
