The cold weather has led to a record consumption of natural gas in Romania, reaching approximately 610 GWh on Monday, equivalent to 57.5 million cubic meters. Although the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated that the country has sufficient gas in storage, imports have increased significantly, reaching 15.1 million cubic meters per day. Romania imports gas from Bulgaria and Hungary, despite exporting nearly 7 million cubic meters to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The minister emphasized that Romania is the largest producer of natural gas in the EU, with reserves of approximately 3 billion cubic meters, but the increase in imports raises questions about resource management in the context of low temperatures.
