Raluca Turcan, the PNL deputy, expressed concerns after the Government's decision to reduce the number of work permits for foreign workers to 90,000 in 2026, which is 10,000 fewer than in 2025. This measure was justified by the Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, through a wave of layoffs in the public sector, to create jobs for affected Romanians. Turcan criticized this approach, emphasizing that it is unrealistic to expect former employees with high salaries to accept jobs with minimum wage.
She highlighted the urgent need of the business environment for labor force, mentioning that employers have requested an increase in the quota to 150,000 foreign workers for 2026. Turcan accused the Government of populism and called for an effective strategy to support the economy, instead of measures that will not bring the desired results.
