Almost 886,000 pensioners received social benefits in September 2026, amid data published by the National House of Public Pensions

The number of beneficiaries of the social allowance for pensioners reached 885,745 in September 2026, 652 more than in the previous month, according to data compiled by the National House of Public Pensions and reviewed by AGERPRES.

Of these, 850,009 were pensioners in the public system, while 35,736 came from the former farmers’ pension system. For pensioners in the public system, the average allowance covered by the state budget was 539 lei. The highest average amounts were reported in Maramureș, at 635 lei; Hunedoara, at 603 lei; Cluj, at 597 lei; Bistrița-Năsăud, at 594 lei; and Prahova, at 593 lei.

The largest number of beneficiaries in the public system were in Bucharest, where 40,537 pensioners were registered, followed by the counties of Suceava, Iași, Dolj, Maramureș and Prahova.

For agricultural pensioners, the average allowance was 359 lei, while the largest number of beneficiaries was recorded in Iași, with 2,772 people. The allowance is granted to pensioners whose combined income is below the legal threshold of 1,281 lei per month.
