The Ministry of Finance reported that VAT collections for the period July-September 2025 were approximately 35.48 billion lei, representing an increase of 6.74 billion lei compared to the previous year. This increase was influenced by economic activity in the third quarter, which generated over two-thirds of the additional revenues. ANAF recorded collections of 12.56 billion lei in August and 12.21 billion lei in September, with the note that the collections in September reflect the VAT for August, a month with reduced economic activity. The Ministry explained that seasonal effects and anticipated purchases in July influenced these collections. Criticism from PSD and USR emphasizes that the increase in VAT did not lead to an improvement in collections, suggesting that economic stimulation would be a more effective alternative.
