Maccaferri seeks to acquire Iterchimica. The Competition Council is reviewing the transaction

Officine Maccaferri S.p.A., an Italian company supplying technical products and solutions for the geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental and civil infrastructure sectors, intends to acquire Iterchimica S.p.A., a company specializing in additives for asphalt mixtures. The transaction is being reviewed by the Competition Council, as both groups operate on the Romanian market. Iterchimica operates in Romania through Iterchimica Romania S.R.L., which provides services and makes sales exclusively to its parent company. The Romanian firm reported turnover of less than one million lei last year, down by approximately 50% from the previous year.

Maccaferri is present locally through Maccaferri România, a company that recorded turnover of 49 million lei, a net profit of 3.4 million lei and nine employees. Italian company Officine Maccaferri was acquired in 2024 by Ambienta SGR, a European private equity investment firm focused on the environment and sustainability. Iterchimica produces and supplies additives used to modify asphalt mixtures required for the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure. The competition authority will assess the transaction’s impact on the relevant markets before deciding whether it can be authorized.
