At a press conference in Piraeus, Kovesi highlighted the impact of Chinese criminal organizations on the European Union, emphasizing customs fraud and VAT fraud on an industrial scale. In the context of a large investigation, she announced the arrest of six individuals, including customs officers, as part of 'Operation Calypso', which led to the confiscation of 2,435 containers. Kovesi estimated losses of 350 million euros in customs duties and 450 million euros in uncollected VAT, highlighting corruption as a global phenomenon that facilitates these illegal activities.
