In the context of a slowing economy and an accelerated transition towards automation based on artificial intelligence, international corporations such as Amazon, Nestlé, and UPS are significantly reducing their workforce. In October, American companies announced over 25,000 layoffs, and UPS eliminated 48,000 positions at the beginning of the year. In Europe, job cuts exceed 20,000, with 16,000 positions coming from Nestlé, which is restructuring its operations. Amazon has confirmed the elimination of up to 14,000 positions, and estimates suggest that the number could reach 30,000. The cuts particularly target office employees, who are more vulnerable to automation. Analysts note that these cuts reflect a structural trend, with companies under pressure to demonstrate the profitability of investments in AI. Economists warn that an acceleration of layoffs could affect consumer confidence and the economic stability of the U.S., already impacted by inflation and trade tariffs.
