The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its economic growth estimates for Romania, forecasting a growth of only 1% for 2025, down from 1.6% and 3.3% in previous years. Additionally, the estimates for 2026 have been reduced to 1.4%, from 2.8%. The IMF anticipated a reduction in the current account deficit to 8% of GDP in 2025, compared to the previously estimated 7.6%, but an improvement to 6.6% is expected in 2026. Inflation is projected to remain high, with an annual average of 7.3% in 2025 and 6.7% in 2026, compared to previous estimates of 4.6% and 3.1%. The unemployment rate will rise to 5.9% in 2025, before slightly decreasing to 5.8% in 2026.
