The FTSE MIB index rose on Monday by up to 1.2%, reaching the threshold of 50,121.2 points and thus surpassing a record set 26 years ago. Since the beginning of the year, Italian stocks have advanced by 11%, marking the third consecutive year of growth. European stock markets continued to reach post-pandemic highs, with the Euro Stoxx 50 and DAX already setting new records this year, while Italy had remained until now the only major European market without a new historical high. The positive trend was particularly supported by companies in the semiconductor industry, such as STMicroelectronics, whose shares increased by 156%. At the same time, energy companies Saipem and Eni were among the market performers. In contrast, some of the large Italian companies, such as Stellantis and Fincantieri, had more modest performances. The FTSE MIB, previously known as S&P/MIB, was introduced in the early 2000s, and its historical values have been calculated retroactively since 1997.
