The EU is considering activating the Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI) in response to President Trump's threats to impose 30% tariffs on European imports. Countries such as France and Germany support the use of the ACI if a trade deal is not reached by August 1. The AIT allows for graduated responses, including tariffs and investment restrictions. Although it has never been activated, the AIT is a deterrent designed to protect the EU's economic sovereignty. The final decision will depend on the outcome of negotiations with the US.
