The Trump administration is preparing to announce new tariffs, which are set to replace the previously imposed temporary 10% tariffs once they expire on Friday. Jamieson Greer, an official within the administration, indicated that a move could take place soon, without specifying an exact date.

These tariffs, deemed illegal by the Supreme Court in February, are aimed at the United States' main trading partners, including the European Union. The tariffs were unilaterally imposed by Trump, accusing the respective countries of unfair trade practices. The Supreme Court did not challenge sectoral tariffs, such as those on automobiles and steel.

Trump announced a global 10% tariff following the court's decision, but the administration has initiated investigations to justify the permanent application of these tariffs. Greer proposed a 12.5% tariff on imports from 45 countries that do not comply with forced labor bans, while a reduced 10% tariff is expected for economies with insufficient efforts, such as the EU.
