A recently approved bill by the Senate provides for the exemption from income tax on salaries for parents who have at least two minor children in care. The measure, which is set to be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies, could bring significant financial benefits for approximately 1.2 million Romanians. The conditions to benefit from this exemption include obtaining income from salaries or similar to salaries, with an annual ceiling of up to 150,000 lei, and presenting supporting documents. The initiators of the project estimate a net annual budget impact of 7-8 billion lei, which could be offset by an increase in the number of active taxpayers. In the medium term, the measure could contribute to increasing birth rates and reducing child poverty, having the potential to support young families and ensure long-term economic sustainability. This law could become an essential tool in combating the demographic crisis and in supporting parents facing financial difficulties.
