The Senate approved at least three additional days of leave for employees from single-parent families / The bill goes to the Chamber of Deputies, the deciding chamber

On Monday, the Senate adopted, with 86 votes in favor and 22 abstentions, a legislative proposal granting employees from single-parent families at least three additional working days of annual leave.

The initiative amends Article 147 of the Labor Code and was submitted by a group of PSD, UDMR and USR lawmakers. According to the explanatory statement, the measure aims to compensate for the additional burden assumed exclusively by a single parent in raising and caring for a child.

The initiators argue that granting additional days off is not a privilege, but recognition of a de facto inequality and a support measure for employees raising their children alone. They estimate that the budgetary and administrative impact will be limited, as beneficiaries represent a relatively small category and the measure does not involve direct financial benefits from the public budget.

The legislative proposal will be debated and voted on by the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making chamber in this case. Until the legislation is adopted and promulgated, the provision does not apply.
